David at a Christening Service

Following are the words of the hymns to sing in this testimonial service.

(1st Hymn) Robert Walmsley

David's Ordination Service in Wales

1.
Come let us sing of a wonderful love,
Tender and true;
Out of the heart of the Father above,
Streaming to me and to you:
Wonderful love
Dwells in the heart of the Father above.

2
Jesus, the Saviour, this gospel to tell,
Joyfully came;
Came with the helpless and hopeless to dwell,
Sharing their sorrow and shame;
Seeking the lost,
Saving, redeeming at measureless cost.

3
Jesus is seeking the wanderers yet;
Why do they roam?
Love only waits to forgive and forget;
Home! weary wanderers, home!
Wonderful love
Dwells in the heart of the Father above.

4
Come to my heart, O Thou wonderful love,
Come and abide,
Lifting my life till it rises above
Envy and falsehood and pride;
Seeking to be
Lowly and humble, a learner of Thee.

(2nd Hymn) Charles Wesley

1
Come, sinners, to the gospel feast,
Let every soul be Jesu's guest;
You need not one be left behind,
For God has bidden all mankind.

2
Sent by my Lord, on you I call,
The invitation is to all;
Come, all the world; come, sinner, thou!
All things in Christ are ready now.

3
Come, all ye souls by sin oppressed,
Ye restless wanderers after rest,
Ye poor, and maimed, and halt, and blind,
In Christ a hearty welcome find.

4
His love is mighty to compel;
His conquering love consent to feel;
Yield to his love's resistless power,
And fight against your God no more.

5
See him set forth before your eyes;
Behold the bleeding sacrifice!
His offered benefits embrace,
And freely now be saved by grace.

6
This is the time; no more delay!
This is the Lord's accepted day;
Come in, this moment, at his call,
And live for him who died for all.

3rd HymnF. Pratt Green

1
When our confidence is shaken
ln beliefs we thought secure;
When the spirit in its sickness
Seeks but cannot find a cure:
God is active in the tensions
Of a faith not yet mature.

2
Solar systems, void of meaning,
Freeze the spirit into stone;
Always our researches lead us
To the ultimate Unknown:
Faith must die, or come full circle
To its source in God alone.

3
In the discipline of praying,
When it's hardest to believe;
In the drudgery of caring,
When it's not enough to grieve:
Faith maturing, learns acceptance
Of the insights we receive.

4
God is love; and he redeems us
In the Christ we crucify:
This is God's eternal answer
To the world's eternal why;
May we in this faith maturing
Be content to live and die.

Summer Outing

(4th Hymn)Charles Wesley

1
Come, thou long-expected Jesus,
Born to set thy people free,
From our fears and sins release us,
Let us find our rest in thee.

2
Israel's strength and consolation,
Hope of all the earth thou art;
Dear desire of every nation,
Joy of every longing heart.

3
Born thy people to deliver,
Born a child and yet a king,
Born to reign in us for ever,
Now thy gracious kingdom bring.

4
By thine own eternal Spirit
Rule in all our hearts alone;
By thine all-sufficient merit
Raise us to thy glorious throne.

(5th Hymn) J.E.Seddon

1
Go forth and tell! O church of God, awake!
God's saving news to all the nations take;
Proclaim Christ Jesus, saviour, Lord, and king,
That all the world his worthy praise may sing.

2
Go forth and tell! God's love embraces all;
He will in grace respond to all who call:
How shall they call if they have never heard
The gracious invitation of his word?

3
Go forth and tell some still the darkness lie;
In wealth or want, in sin they live and die:
Give us, O Lord, concern of heart and mind,
A love like yours which cares for all mankind.

4
Go forth and tell! The doors are open wide:
Share God's good gifts with people long denied;
Live out your life as Christ your Lord shall choose,
Your ransomed powers for his sole glory use.
