Our second week's evening worship on the 23rd February 1986 was led by our Chairman of the district Minister Rev Colin Rowe. and we welcomed the churches in our circuit to join us.

Once the service is running you can sing along with the words of the hymns and song shown further down this page.
To do this either minimise the media player or have it running in the background

I pray that you will enjoy this act of worship, and are able to join in, wherever you are.
It gives us so many happy and thoughtful moments of this special time.
If you would like the CD's to cherish these memories then please e-mail the Webmaster. You will be supporting our ongoing church funds.

Jubilee 1986 Following are the words of the hymns to sing in this fourth service.

(1st Hymn)Robert Robinson

COME THOU FOUNT OF EVERY BLESSING,
Tune my heart to sing thy grace;
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Calls for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious measure
Sung by flaming tongues above;
O the vast, the boundless treasure
Of my Lord’s unchanging love!

Here I find my greatest treasure;
‘Hither by thy help I’ve come’.
And I hope, by thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He to rescue me from danger,
Interposed his precious blood.

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let that grace, Lord, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Take my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it from thy courts above.

(2nd Hymn)Tr. John Mason Neale

BLESSED city, heavenly Salem
Vision dear of peace and love,
Who of living stones art builded
In the height of heaven above,
And by angel hosts encircled
As a bride dost earthward move!

Christ is made the sure foundation,
Christ the head and corner-stone,
Chosen of the Lord, and precious, binding all the church in one,
Holy Zion's help for ever, and her confidence alone.

To this temple, where we call thee; come, O Lord of Hosts, today;
With thy wonted loving-kindness hear thy servants as they pray;
And thy fullest benediction shed within its walls always.

Here vouchsafe to all thy servants what they ask of thee to gain,
What they gain from thee for ever with the blessed to retain,
And hereafter in thy glory evermore with thee to reign.

Laud and honour to the Father, laud and honour to the Son,
Laud and honour to the Spirit, ever Three, and ever One,
Consubstantial, co-eternal, while unending ages run.

(3rd Hymn)F. Pratt Green

GOD IS HERE! AS WE HIS PEOPLE
Meet to offer praise and prayer,
May we find in fuller measure
What it is in Christ we share.
Here, as in the world around us
All our varied skills and arts
Wait the coming of the Spirit
Into open minds and hearts.

Here are symbols to remind us
Of our lifelong need of grace;
Here are table, font, and pulpit;
Here the cross has central place.
Here in honesty of preaching,
Here in silence, as in speech,
Here, in newness and renewal,
God the Spirit comes to each.

Here our children find a welcome
In the Shepherd’s flock and fold;
Here as bread and wine are taken,
Christ sustains us, as of old;
Here the servants of the Servant
Seek in worship to explore,
What it means in daily living
To believe and to adore.

Lord of all, of Church and Kingdom,
In an age of change and doubt,
Keep us faithful to the gospel,
Help us work your purpose out.
Here, in this day’s dedication,
All we have to give, receive:
We, who cannot live without you,
We adore you! We believe!

(4th Hymn)Caryl Micklem

THANKS be to God, whose Church on earth
Has stood the tests of time and place,
And everywhere proclaims new birth
Through Christ whose love reveals God's face.

Thanks be to God, whose Spirit sent,
Apostles out upon his way;
From east to west the message went;
On Greek and Roman dawned the day.

Thanks be to God who now would reach
His listeners in more global ways:
Now each will send the news, and each
Receive and answer it in praise.

Thanks be to God, in whom we share
Today the mission of his Son:
May all his Church that time prepare
When, like the task, the world is one.

(5th Hymn)Joseph Hart

THIS, THIS IS THE GOD WE ADORE,
Our faithful, unchangeable friend,
Whose love is as great as his power,
And neither knows measure nor end.

‘Tis Jesus, the first and the last,
Whose Spirit shall guide us safe home;
We’ll praise him for all that is past,
And trust him for all that’s to come.
